"IN
FLIGHT"
Hand Sculpted Ostrich Egg
Sculpted by Kathleen Kendall
The next egg I have is one that I carved. This is the first time I have ever carved anything in my entire life. I used the pattern from Gary LeMaster's.
I entered this egg in the International Egg Sculptors Carving contest and came in third place in the Novice Group. I am very proud of this egg.

Eggs were buried under foundations of buildings to ward off evil. Eggs are symbols of life and fertility. Easter eggs symbolize the resurrection and the renewal of life that comes with spring. Easter eggs planted in vineyards were supposed to guard vines against thunder and hail. It is an old courting custom to present beautifully decorated eggs to a favored sweetheart or suitor. Golden eggs symbolize great fortune to recipients. In days of old, it was said that any egg laid on Friday would cure a stomach ache. |
